History
Mario Kart 7
The Koopa Clown first appears in Mario Kart 7 as an unlockable kart part. It boosts handling, but lowers acceleration and off-road slightly. It should also be noted that the Koopa Clown is tied with the Birthday Girl and Cloud 9 for having the highest handling of all kart bodies, and it has the highest handling of any kart body that doesn't have a negative impact on the weight or speed stats.
In terms of its hidden stats, the Koopa Clown offers one of the strongest mini-turbo boosts in the game; a trait that it shares with the Barrel Train and Bumble V kart bodies. Its engine noise is similar to that of the Tyrant, Hurricane, Rambi Rider, Wildlife, Brute and Dragonfly from Mario Kart DS and also shares it with the Cact-X which is a V2 engine.
CPU Bowser can occasionally be seen using this kart body.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Although it does not appear in the original Mario Kart 8, the kart reappears in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as an unlockable kart body. It is redesigned to appear smaller. The exhaust pipes are shorter and it is equipped with a pair of propellers that open up on gliders and anti-gravity segments. Other design aspects were also changed to make it better resemble the actual Koopa Clown Car, such the exhaust pipe placed in its mouth being removed. The tips of the propellers also have a secondary color. Much like the Landship, the kart has different palette colors for each of the Koopalings, which match the colors of the Koopa Clown Cars they use in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, for Wii U, and Ultimate. For other characters, it uses the default green color. Its engine sound is shared with the Biddybuggy. CPU Bowser, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings occasionally use this body during races. It gives off a small boost to weight, water speed, handling, water handling, and the highest boost to traction, while speed, acceleration, and mini-turbo are hindered. It shares its stats with the Tanooki Kart and the Master Cycle Zero.

- Lemmy: Yellow with orange, light-blue tipped propellers
- Morton: Gray with brown propeller tips
- Larry: Light blue with orange propeller tips
- Wendy: Pink with light pink propeller tips
- Iggy: Bright green with dark purple propeller tips
- Roy: Red with purple propeller tips
- Ludwig: Blue with green propeller tips
- All others: Green with yellow-orange propeller tips
Mario Kart Tour
The Koopa Clown returns in Mario Kart Tour, where it is classified as a Super kart. It was added in the Tokyo Tour and uses its Mario Kart 8 Deluxe design. In this game, the kart is equipped with the Standard tires from Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Unlike in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the rim does not change color regardless of the Koopaling driving it. The kart's propellers also no longer pop out while the kart is gliding. The Koopa Clown increases the duration of Mini-Turbo boosts and the amount of points earned for performing Mini-Turbos.
The 2019 Halloween Tour introduced a purple variant of the kart called the Dark Clown, which is also classified as a Super kart. The 2021 Holiday Tour introduced a holiday-themed variant, the Candy Clown, which has the High-End classification.
The Koopa Clown is available in regular tour pipes and is also part of the shop's Daily Selects. It could be obtained through other means as well; the table below lists the special availability of the Koopa Clown by tour.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
The Koopa Clown reappears in Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit keeping its appearance from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but with small rocket-like objects on the sides and the kart's tires being set to anti-gravity at all times, now limited to a CPU-only kart used by Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings. Similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Koopalings' Koopa Clowns are uniquely colored except for the steering wheel piece, which is green for all of them in the game itself.
