Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to this February edition of Fun Stuff! For the first time in two years, I'm just speaking to you from my Fun Stuff headquarters. Certainly odd to stay the least, but hey, I'm no longer the chump who has to stay up late and get everything prepped for the morning of release, so who's really winning here?

I hope your February has been pleasant so far! Love is in the air, of course, but so is the motion of life after the first month of the year. College is really kicking back into full swing on my end, and I imagine my fellow students out there are feeling similarly. Make sure to take some time for yourself when you can! I've just recently been getting into figure drawing, and I've started reacquainting myself with writing poetry, so this period is feeling fruitful both academically and personally for me. It's incredible what a little bit of February sun can do for you.

In terms of Fun Stuff announcements, I don't have any! Our writers are hard at work - especially with the Valentine's I forced them to make this year! That's right, we're really in the spirit folks! Go ahead and settle in, kick back, relax those legs of yours, and enjoy Issue 179's Fun Stuff samplings!

Anagrams

Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)

Hi everyone, welcome to the February edition of anagrams! To kick things off, I'd like to introduce the theme for this month- Super Mario Strikers! With the recent announcement of the new game in the series, it seemed like a fitting topic for this month. If you have any ideas for themes for upcoming sections, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, I'd love to be able to use them. All that leaves now is the goal of solving these anagrams!

How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!

1. TREK OR ORBIT

2. CURL OF PEW

3. I UNLOCK OMEGAS

4. AM HERB ROM

5. PESKIER RUTS

6. PLAIN PERCENTILE

7. SCOUR HUM MOP

8. MUTE PEARS

9. OH PINCH MAC

10. HELMETED TO BAT

Bonus anagram:

Answers

Hiding Koopa

Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)

Koopa Troopa from Mario Kart 8.
WANTED!

Hello, 'Shroom readers! It's time for another Hiding Koopa!

It's Olympic time! Yeah, this month featured the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, and due to this occasion, my usual Koopa Troopas who love to play hide and seek decided to do so in an artwork from Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Well, yeah, this isn't the one from Beijing, but it still has the Olympic vibes, right? Right. Speaking of Olympic Games, I wonder which sport each of us in the 'Shroom Staff would be better at or at least be the best fit for? I'd like to see myself being better at snowboarding, but I may be biased since I think snowboarding is such a cool sport. I'd like to see your answer on this!

Anyway, as usual, there are five Koopas for you to find. Have fun!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

HOW TO PLAY

Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!

You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!

Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.

Challenge round (optional):

-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less

-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help

Carmen will be flying high unless you stop her!

“Gumshoe, we’ve got another case for you- it’s Carmen this time, and it’s a big one. Bowser has reported to us that his main Airship is missing! There’s no thief brave enough to take on this job, and such a brazen act of grand theft aviation can only be attributed to her. Seems she still wants to be able to get around, and while you’ve foiled her plans for stealing karts in the past, she’s gone a step further to secure some transportation of all of her stolen goods. That airship is massive, big enough to contain arenas for boss battles in games like Super Mario Bros. 3, where Mario was pitted up against each of the Koopalings. Needless to say, Bowser is furious at the loss of it, and he is asking for our help in getting it back. Your reputation has traveled far, gumshoe, although I have a hunch that Madame Broode has been dropping hints to him as well to advertise your services. We need to find that ship and fast, gumshoe, before Carmen can hide it- or worse, steal something with it! Let’s get a move on!”

CLUE 2

CLUE 3

CASE CLOSED

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Scorching Canyon from Donkey Kong Barrel Blast Scorching Canyon

The airship flies again!

“We’re flying high again, gumshoe, but there’s a dark cloud slinking away from our view- Carmen slipped away this time. It seemed like we were just about to snag her when she escaped in a getaway vehicle driven by one of her cronies! ACME agents chased her down, but were unable to catch her. Bowser, who was in tow as well to retrieve his ship, even tried giving chase, but no dice. We’ll just have to keep an eye out for her again, gumshoe, I know she’ll strike once something new catches her eye. But as for this job, consider it a success! Bowser got his ship back and we’ve managed to thwart Carmen’s plans for a new getaway vehicle. Bowser has sent ahead a reward for you, and we’ve direct deposited it and your regular pay into your account. Perhaps you’d like to take a vacation after all your hard work?”

Musical Quiz

Written by: WildWario (talk)

Hi, I'm WildWario, and this is Musical Quizzes. This game is simple, just listen to the music and guess where it comes from. The answers can be found at the bottom of the list. This time, the quiz is themed around a certain princess and her best friend, so try your best to get the questions correct.
