Swipin' Stus[1][2][3] are a type of footless Strollin' Stu capable of flight through insect-like wings. They come in blue- and green-clothed varieties.[3]

Blue Swipin' Stus, also called Winged Strollin' Stus,[1] winged Goombas,[4] and Name Kuri (wings),[5] look like medium-sized Strollin' Stus with peach-colored skin and blue pants. They are found only on Pinna Park beach during the episode Red Coins of the Pirate Ships (replacing the previous Smolderin' Stus from Mecha-Bowser Appears!), in Hotel Delfino's lobby secret course, and on the Delfino Airstrip after the flood. When encountered in normal courses, the Swipin' Stus idly hover in place, usually in pairs. When Mario comes in close proximity, they start to fly towards him. When directly above Mario, they slam down, depleting one bar from Mario's life meter upon making contact. As with other members of their species, a simple squirt with FLUDD or a stomp defeats them. In the secret course, they fly back and forth along a fixed trajectory and are used as stepping stones.

Green Swipin' Stus, also known as Flying Goombas,[6] Doro Kuri,[5] and Kuri,[7] are slightly larger and have tan skin, with the clothed part resembling a hoodie. They replace the blue ones on the Pinna Park beach in Episodes 5 through 8. They act the same as the others in that they try to slam down on Mario if he approaches. However, if a green Swipin' Stu succeeds, it steals his cap and spontaneously sprouts a mustache similar to Mario's. Without his cap, Mario slowly loses health when in direct sunlight. To retrieve his cap, Mario must either ground-pound the Swipin' Stu and take it back or reenter Pinna Park. Green Swipin' Stus drop five coins when defeated.

Originally, a ground counterpart to the green Swipin' Stus, with feet and no wings, were intended to appear during the boss fight with King Boo.[8] They do not appear in the final game.
