Template:Level Roasting Rails is the fifty-eighth level found in Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the third level in the world, Volcano.

Most of this level takes place on a minecart, where the track for the cart is constantly moving. The Kongs can also jump off these minecarts for this level. The fire below breaks the rails, causing it to fall into pieces and tilt. Platforms supporting the track are also constantly sinking, rising, and even dipping into the fire. Tiki Torches are spread around the course, along with balls of lava that shoot out of the fire, so Donkey and Diddy Kong must carefully maneuver around them by ducking and jumping. A short potion of the level is also played on land, where platforms continue to split and fall. Some Tiki Tanks appear in these ground areas.

In the Time Attack mode of the game, a time of 1:27:00 is needed to get a gold medal, a time of 1:32:00 for silver, and a time of 1:48:00 for bronze.

Overview

The level starts off with the Kongs on the ground. There is a platform floating in a pit of lava nearby that they need to jump from to climb on top of a ceiling covered in a green, grassy turf, which is placed above another platform that is under it in a pit of lava. As they travel to this platform, the ceiling supporting the climbable grass falls. A platform with a fireball enemy and another platform above it with a barrel is after another ceiling covered in grassy turf, which falls when climbed on. There is a wall raised next to this that can only be opened by hitting it from a nearby Barrel Cannon. Once they shoot into the wall with the barrel, it opens, allowing them to travel through and find more Barrel Cannons. The cannons shoot them onto a minecart on a track. While riding on the minecart, platforms rise up and push up the track. The letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters is placed in this area. After this area is another climbable ceiling with bananas that the primates can grab onto after jumping out of their cart. On the other side of the turf-covered ceiling is another minecart on a second track covered in bananas. After the duo rides down a hill, a platform rises from the lava and pushes the track upwards as they approach a gap with a small piece of ground holding a Puzzle Piece. In the gap full of lava is a Barrel Cannon that shoots the Kongs into a minecart on a platform that quickly sinks into the fire when landed on. Two separate tracks are after this, with the top track having a new cart on it. The bottom track has many rising parts of it and a Flaming Tiki Buzz, while the top track has few obstacles and a Puzzle Piece. Another platform that quickly sinks into the lava is following this, and after a pit with a fireball jumping out of it is another section of the track with three Flaming Tiki Buzzes piled on top of each other. Donkey and Diddy must crouch under them to progress safely.

The track dips into the lava shortly after it stretches under the Tiki enemies. From here is a steep hill that leads towards a gap that a fireball enemy jumps in. Once the gap is crossed, the primates are able to reach a new minecart. However, within seconds, they approach another abyss, forcing them to jump out of the cart, hop over the gap, and land into another minecart. The track supporting this cart is broken apart by rising platforms that lift it up. Another pit is after this small track with the letter O in it. There is yet another minecart on the other end of this gap that carries the duo over a longer platform that quickly sinks into the fire. A minecart is ahead of it that is placed on a track that dips into the lava for a second. After it dips into the lava, platforms shoot out of the lava and lift up parts of the track, making the Kongs' path more rickety. There is a trail of bananas following the third rising platform with the letter N in it. The banana trail leads to a track that breaks into four more pieces from the rising platforms in the lava below. A pit is after the fourth of these broken track pieces that has a solid area of land next to it. On the stone ground area if the Tutorial Pig at the checkpoint near a Barrel Cannon.

There is then a barrel next to the platform, that shoots the Kongs directly to a minecart on a platform, along with more platforms and minecarts with short tracks. There are more enemies floating on those platforms. Platforms then fall down, and soon break apart if not gotten on in time. After that, there is a minecart that takes the primates to a ceiling they need to climb with a couple of bananas. A platform falls, and another ceiling with bananas is there that the Kongs need to climb. There continues to be more ceilings with bananas, as platforms fall and take the Kongs to one ceiling to another without touching the lava. There is another ceiling, and when climbed, lava starts rising fast. There is a barrel rising above the lava at the same speed. Next to that there is a minecart, and when ridden, platforms rise up and down, and then start going completely down. There are also bananas on the platforms. After going through that, there is a platform with a minecart along with more platforms with minecarts, and the platforms go down slowly. When completing that, the level is over.

Secrets

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: When the Kongs start riding in a minecart on some platforms that rise up, the Kongs must jump on a platform quickly to get it.
  • O: The primates then continue riding in a minecart on platforms. When there are no more platforms, the O is above lava. The Kongs need to jump quickly to get it.
  • N: The Kongs are still riding platforms. On the last one, the N and some bananas are floating. They must jump and fall down to get the N.
  • G: The primates ride more platforms and eventually, they climb on a ceiling a couple of times. After that, the Kongs then move on a minecart on platforms that go down like stairs. On the second to last platform there is a G letter. The primates need to jump to get it.

Puzzle Pieces

  1. When the Kongs go in a barrel at the very beginning of the level, they go to s Bonus Stage. If the two primates get all the bananas in time, they will be able to get a Puzzle Piece.
  2. After the primates ride on some more platforms, in the middle, there is a very small one with a Puzzle Piece. After the Kongs get it, they need to jump back up quickly to get in a barrel and shoot themselves back up to a minecart.
  3. Shortly later, there are two thin platforms. The Kongs need to be on the top one, where a Puzzle Piece is located.
  4. The Kongs ride on more platforms with multiple minecarts. After they ride lots of platforms, they climb on ceilings and once they are done on the first one and it completely comes down, if they go back, a Puzzle Piece will be there.
