Orbot and Cubot are a pair of robots built by Dr. Eggman to serve him as his assistants. Their main jobs are assisting Dr. Eggman in his schemes for world domination and making sure the processes of his plans are carried out correctly. While they are both loyal to Dr. Eggman, they often complain about his orders and talk back to him. Orbot does not like him very much and usually points out his mistakes, much to Eggman's frustration, while Cubot is dim-witted, lazy and will try to avoid work.

History

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games

In the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Orbot and Cubot appear as referees in several Events. The pair also performs a variety of roles in London Party mode, where they can appear as a ? mark effect and copy one of the player's existing stickers onto a blank space, as well as appearing to provide dialogue for Metal Sonic when he is spoken to during the mode. Orbot and Cubot are also both featured in the Orbot & Cubot Tag! minigame, in which they work against a team of four players to try and capture them in cages.

In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, Orbot and Cubot appear as referees for Long Jump and Triple Jump, where Cubot indicates whether or not the player performed a foul by crossing the takeoff line, while Orbot will measure the distance achieved if the player performs a successful jump. In the Story Mode, The pair only appears in the Tricksters bonus episodes, where they assist Dr. Eggman in training Metal Sonic after a round of modifications by him. The pair is skeptical of Metal Sonic's performance, suggesting Dr. Eggman intentionally programmed him to lose to him. Dr. Eggman jokingly suggests the two should fight Metal Sonic instead, to Orbot's dismay and Cubot's enjoyment. Orbot and Cubot then assist Dr. Eggman in recruiting Waluigi and later Wario in order to test Metal Sonic. After acquiring the fog urn from Wario, Orbot and Cubot observe as Dr. Eggman successfully produces Phantasmal Fog with the urn. After being confused by the sudden appearance and disappearance of the Sonic imposter, Orbot and Cubot watch as Dr. Eggman explains the history of the urn and his plan to rule the world before they are chased away by him as he threatens to replace Cubot's voice chip. Badges of Orbot and Cubot can be obtained from the badge machine.
