The Spiny Capsule first appeared in Mario Party 5, where it could be thrown to a space on the board, or used on the player for five coins (not advised). Anyone who landed on a space containing this capsule got bashed by a Spiny Shell, making them lose ten coins. In Mario Party 6, it became an Orb that players could only place on a space (and costs five coins at the Orb Shop). Opponents that landed on a space contaning the orb got attacked by Spiny Shells and lost ten coins, which were then given to the owner of that space. In Mario Party 7, it became an Orb that players could only place on a space as a roadblock trap. Opponents who passed it lost ten coins to the Spiny Shell again, but the coins were not given to the owner.
