Single Sculls (or Rowing) is a real-life Olympic event in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and the only one in the "Rowing" category. The point of this event is to cross the finish line before the rest of the players. It involves pressing buttons together to speed up whilst doing the row action.

All that has to be done is for the player to row with excellent timing as fast as possible. It is a race to the finish line and the first one there wins the prize.
In this event, the player starts by pressing the Z and B Buttons simultaneously and pulling the Wii Remote and Nunchuk back towards them. To row, the player must input the button combination onscreen and pull backward when prompted, with the button combination initially starting off as only the Z Button and B Button, but later in the event the combination switches between the A and B Buttons and the A and Z Buttons as well. The player's speed is determined by the timing with which they executed the stroke, with faster timing giving them a larger speed boost. Perfect timing is indicated by three red musical notes appearing above the character's head, with good timing represented by two green musical notes and poor timing indicated by a singe green note. If the player inputs the wrong button combination or fails to input one at all, they will lose speed. As the player approaches the final stretch, the timing of the strokes will speed up and the player only has to pull back the Wii Remote and Nunchuk without pressing any buttons to row. The first character to cross the finish line wins.

To play only the Wii Remote is needed. Press the button(s) specified on the screen and pull the Wii Remote back. If green notes come off of the character it was bad and if red ones come off, it was good! For example, if the B Button appears on the screen, the player must press the B Button and pull back the Wii Remote like they're rowing. At the beginning mostly As and Bs appear for the player to press but as the finish line gets closer A+Bs start appearing. When the finish line is incredibly close, the buttons disappear and all the player has to do is pull back the remote with good timing. Only four players can participate in this event and the first of those four across the finish line wins.

*In this event, you'll compete to see how fast you can row a boat and reach the goal. Rowing quickly and with good timing is the key to getting a good record.
*This event uses the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. When "GO!" appears, immediately press the displayed buttons and pull both controllers back to move the boat.
*By continuing to press the displayed buttons while pulling the controllers back, you'll speed up. If you pull slowly or make a mistake, you'll slow down.
*You can also play this event with only the Wii Remote. By pressing the displayed button or buttons while pulling the Wii Remote back, you'll speed up.

Shadow
Names in other languages
Shadow's fourth mission in the Wii version is single sculls. To win this mission, Shadow must also beat his rival to the finish line. The only difference between this mission and Vector's is that in this mission the rival is, ironically, Vector and in Vector's mission, it is Bowser.

In the Wii version, Dr. Eggman's second mission is Single Sculls. He must finish the race but the only difference is that he cannot finish the race in first, if he does he loses. Dr. Eggman must finish the race in the totally awesome position of second! He can do this by being very fast at the start and slowing down at the end.

Peach
This would be Princess Peach's third mission in the Wii version. It is single sculls and she must win a race but the difference between this and the real event is that here, she must win the race with at least three perfect strokes. This should be pretty easy for her.

Waluigi
This is Waluigi's fifth mission and it is also a mission where he must defeat his rival who is his doppleganger, Luigi. Waluigi must cross the finish line before Luigi does.

Single Sculls is a Rowing Event that appears in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. The objective of the event is to row in the fastest time, with the event taking place in the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. To unlock this event, the player must complete the Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn circuits. The starting world record for this event is 6:35.40. Big appears as a referee in this event.

Gameplay[edit]
