Gangplank Galleon is the name of the first world of both Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. It takes place on the large pirate ship of the same name, docked right next to Crocodile Isle. Every level takes place some place on the pirate ship. The galleon has many chasms inside, the masts form a good clamber system, and inside the ship is a flooded caliginous cargo. The masts, hold and deck host many enemies, the most common being Neeks, Klomps, and Krunchas. There are a few aquatic enemies in the flooded cargo hold, including Lockjaws, Shuri, and Puftups. A large Mini-Necky boss, Krow, appears in his own crow's nest at the peak of the area.

Because of the German translation of the level Lockjaw's Locker, the Gangplank Galleon has been believed to be a reference to The Flying Dutchman, a ship whose captain was cursed to roam the seas forever on that ship. Gangplank Galleon even bears a resemblance to the ghost ship.

In the instruction manual for both Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and its Game Boy Advance version, the first world is incorrectly named Gangplank Galley, despite the original version's manual even mentioning Gangplank Galleon.

There are five levels and a boss level in both Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. Though their names are identical, their layouts are drastically different, to the point of them being different levels:

  Pirate Panic
  The first level, Pirate Panic is a simple, straightforward level that takes place on a ship deck.

  Mainbrace Mayhem
  The second level, Mainbrace Mayhem involves Diddy and Dixie making their way up ship masts and yards to reach the top, as well as climbing up ropes with Klingers along the way.

  Gangplank Galley
  The third level, Gangplank Galley also takes place on a ship deck, but unlike Pirate Panic, there are more large barrel platforms for the Kongs to walk on, hooks to help them cross wide gaps, and Kaboings bouncing around.

  Lockjaw's Locker
  The fourth level, Lockjaw's Locker takes place in a flooded cargo of the ship, and it is the first level to have sections where Diddy and Dixie have to swim.

  Topsail Trouble
  The fifth level, Topsail Trouble is a rigging level taking place during a rainstorm. Diddy and Dixie can ride Rattly for the first part of the level. After this is a series of ropes that have to be climbed, but there are Zingers having to be avoided.

  Boss level: Krow's Nest
  The boss level, Krow's Nest involves a boss fight against Krow, whom the Kongs have to defeat in order to continue on to the second world, Crocodile Cauldron.

  Pirate Panic
  The first level, Pirate Panic takes place on a ship deck, featuring basic enemies such as Klomps and Neeks. There are also a few pitfalls placed along the path that Diddy and Dixie must avoid.

  The second level, Mainbrace Mayhem involves the Kongs going up the ship masts by climbing on ropes.

  Gangplank Galley
  The third level, Gangplank Galley takes place on a ship deck, and there is an Animal Barrel of Rambi to enter for the second remaining half.

  Lockjaw's Locker
  The fourth level, Lockjaw's Locker takes place in the flooded cargo of Gangplank Galleon.

  Topsail Trouble
  The fifth level, Topsail Trouble is another rigging level, like with Mainbrace Mayhem, and the Kongs have the option of transforming into Rattly at the beginning.

  Boss level: Krow's Nest
  The boss level, Krow's Nest involves a boss fight against Krow, and defeating him opens the way to Krem Cauldron.
