A patroller was a user who is given blocking, rollbacking, and patrolling rights.
Patrollers were established on April 15th, 2007 in order to counter vandalism that has been becoming more constant as the wiki becomes more popular. They could be considered an in-between of users and sysops and were chosen by bureaucrats for a) activeness and b) trust. As of March 26th, 2008, the patroller rank is phased out because of lacking powers for patrollers and redundancy with the Sysop rank. It may be reactivated when there will be increased need for it.
