In Story Mode, the airship is shown to be owned by a [[Koopa Troopa]]. It is first seen when [[Mario]] and [[Toad]] need to get to the other side of the sea, but the Koopa Troopa tells them that he has done ferrying people for today. Toad tells him it's urgent, and the Koopa Troopa agrees to ferry them if Mario can beat him in a Tennis Match. A stormy version of the court also appears in Story Mode, where Mario needs to beat a [[Blooper]] and defeat [[Gooper Blooper]]. After defeating Gooper Blooper, [[Kamek]] challenges Mario to a mission where he must return the ball until he reaches 400 points.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnZumNREa3I</ref>

Optionally, Mario can accept a challenge from [[Kamek]] where he needs to rally the ball until he gets 400 points. Completing it rewards Mario with the [[Shell Racket]].
