The Kongs can climb behind them for protection. Though this protects against the Minkeys, the Barrel Shield can move in the opposite direction suddenly, leaving the Kongs in the open. A Barrel Shield is a type of shield in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. They first appear in the level Barrel Shield Bust-Up.
During the tree levels of the two games, the Kongs are attacked by Minkeys, who throw nuts at them. They can find Barrel Shields, which can found moving up and down along ropes. The Kongs can climb behind them for protection. Though this protects against the Minkeys, the Barrel Shield can move in the opposite direction suddenly, leaving the Kongs in the open. Nevertheless, as long as stay behind the Barrel Shield, they can avoid the nuts thrown by Minkeys throughout the area.
