Both types of tires as they appear in Donkey Kong Country

Tire (spelled tyres in the UK-based Rareware games) are commonplace objects in the Donkey Kong series, where their bouncy properties allow characters to reach high, inaccessible areas.

History

Donkey Kong Country series

Such tires first appear in the original Donkey Kong Country game, where they can be moved around and can be jumped on to reach rather elevated places. Halves of tires, which cannot be moved around, also appear on platforms floating in the air or stuck into the ground in certain areas. They also appear in Donkey Kong Land and function the same way. Mincers appear to be spike-covered tires.

Tires later appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest where they only appear in the level Jungle Jinx. These tires are much larger than the ones in the previous game, and resemble tractor tires. They are used the same way as tires from the previous games, but can be hazardous as well if one lands on the Kongs or if a tire crushes them by going into a wall.

A single tire is present in Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, beneath DK's Tree House, and is used to bounce up to it.

Donkey Kong Country (television series)

Additionally, in a Donkey Kong Country television series episode, a tire appears in Donkey Kong's house as a swing.

DK: Jungle Climber

After several years of absence, they appear once again in DK: Jungle Climber, where they come in several colors. They appear floating in mid-air in this game and they can be jumped on to reach objects such as a DK Coin.
