Lucky Space

The Lucky Space in the tutorial.

The Lucky Space is a space in Mario Party 8. There is at least one on each board (with the shape of the space being different on each, including the tutorial). Each Lucky Space will transport the player to an otherwise inaccessible area of the board, where they can expect to find a small path of Blue Spaces leading to a free Star. At the end of the path, the player will return to the main board. In most cases, there is an unlimited number of Stars that players can receive from revisiting these paths.

Here is what happens if the player land on one:

DK's Treetop Temple: If a player lands on a Lucky space, they'll ride a floating platform to a large platform behind the main board. On the large platform is a path of Blue Spaces, each with three coins on them. At the end of the platform is a free Star, and a Warp Pipe that will send the player back to the start.

Goomba's Booty Boardwalk: If a player lands on this board's Lucky space, they will hop on a Dolphin and be transported to a small island west of the main path. On the island is a small path of Blue Spaces, each with three coins on them. At the end of the path is a huge Treasure Chest guarded by two Goomba statues, who will reward the player with a Star, and then return the player to the Lucky Space.

King Boo's Haunted Hideaway: The Lucky Space on this board will reveal a hidden staircase with a small path of Blue Spaces, each with three coins on top. The path also acts as a direct route to King Boo's den, but ten coins still must be paid to earn the Star. King Boo will still shuffle the board if the Star is earned this way.

Shy Guy's Perplex Express: By landing on a Lucky space, the player will be dropped off at Payday Waystation. It's a one-way path consisting of eight spaces, which have 3 coins on them per visit, with a Shy Guy at the end who will give you a free star. Once you've gotten the star, two Shy Guys will bring you back to the start of the train.

Koopa's Tycoon Town: The Lucky Space here results in a Koopa Troopa pulling up in a car to take you to a place in town where the road is "paved with gold". He will give you a bumpy ride to another Blue Space path with three coins on each space. In the middle of it is a three-star hotel that can be owned for an investment of only one coin. When the end of this area is reached, the player will cross the road back to the Lucky Space.

Bowser's Warped Orbit: Landing on the Lucky Space here will cause a spaceship to land next to the player. It will open up revealing an alien-like Shy Guy, calling himself Captain Shy Guy. He'll take the player to the Shy Guy's Orbital Buffet, where they get to collect three pieces of free Bowser Candy Bullet Candy before coming back to the Lucky Space.
