A Snapjaw is an invulnerable piranha-like species of fish. They resemble pink Lockjaws.

Snapjaws appear normally near water's surface, following the Kongs throughout the level to attack them when they attempt to fall into the water. Once locked on its prey, the Snapjaw would bite mercilessly, forcing the Kongs to get out from the water. They can not be defeated, and move at a very fast pace, so the heroes must make sure they avoid this enemy at all costs.

The first appearance of Snapjaws was in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. In this game, Snapjaws only appeared in two levels (and only one Snapjaw per level at that), "Slime Climb" and "Clapper's Cavern". In "Slime Climb", a Snapjaw would follow Diddy and Dixie Kong throughout the level, a half-sunken ship that was still sinking at a rapid pace. Elsewhere, in "Clapper's Cavern", a Snapjaw would once again follow the Kongs throughout the level. In order to avoid the hungry fish in this level, the Kongs had to employ the freezing powers of their animal buddy, Clapper the Seal.
