The '''Ruby Star''' is the fourth of the [[Crystal Stars]] [[Mario]] collects in ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'', obtained upon finishing Chapter 4: For Pigs the Bell Tolls.

According to the legend of the Crystal Stars as told by [[Grifty]], the [[Boo]] [[List of implied characters#Four heroes|heroine]] placed the Ruby Star in the [[Creepy Steeple]] in an effort to keep it safe.<ref>"Once the Boo heroine hid her star in a steeple, she was trapped in the nearby town. Some say the Crystal Star lies in that steeple still." - [[Grifty]]</ref> Eventually, [[Doopliss]] finds the Ruby Star and starts residing in the Creepy Steeple, using the Ruby Star to amplify his power and turn the residents of [[Twilight Town]] into pigs. After Mario defeats Doopliss for the first time, he seemingly collects the Ruby Star, though Doopliss and Mario are soon revealed to have swapped places, with Doopliss acting as Mario and Mario becoming a shadow. Joining up with [[Vivian]], Mario defeats Doopliss again and recovers the Ruby Star for real, and Mario learns the move [[Art Attack]] to use in battles.

During the final battle with the [[Shadow Queen]], when the Crystal Stars spread out to the locations in which they were found, the Ruby Star retreats to Twilight Town, where its residents root for Mario and his team before the final round against the Shadow Queen begins.

*In the ''Paper Mario'' series, the Ruby Star and the purple [[Big Paint Star]] from [[Paper Mario: Color Splash]] are the only main collectables obtained at the end of Chapter 4 that are not colored any shade of blue. (The [[Star Spirit]] [[Muskular]], who is blue, the blue [[Pure Heart]], and the blue [[Royal Sticker]] are the others from their respective games.)
