In this event, the player starts by holding and releasing | In this event, the player starts by holding and releasing the L and R Buttons when "Go!" appears, and can charge up energy to perform a faster start by holding the down for longer. The player can perform a starting dash by holding from when "2" appears in the countdown and releasing them with perfect timing. The player can repeatedly press the L and R Buttons to accelerate, however doing this will use up the player's stamina. If the player runs out of stamina, which is shown in a heart gauge, they will be unable to accelerate and will travel at a much lower speed for a short amount of time until they regain some stamina. The player can also regain stamina when it is not fully depleted by skating through a recovery zone, which refills more stamina the longer the player skates in it for. The player can move left and right by pressing the respective buttons for each direction, and can turn corners by pressing down the button of the direction they are turning in and repeatedly pressing the other one to gain speed. Both of these actions deplete the player's stamina. The player can also perform jumps by pressing the B Button, and can also perform special dashes by holding down both the L and R Buttons, which gives them a short boost of speed but uses up a large amount of stamina The course features several obstacles, which include pitfalls and areas of ice which will break and form pitfalls when enough characters have skated over them, but are broken faster when more special dashes are used on them. These can either be jumped over or the player can use a dash ring to get over them, but if they fall in, the player will lose time and speed but will be fished out by a [[Fishin' Lakitu]], who will replace them on the track roughly where they fell off. The course also features dash rings, which the characters can jump into to gain a speed boost and remain in the air for a longer amount of time, as well as a [[Dash Panel]], which gives the characters a small speed boost when skated over. The obstacles on the course can be changed by skating over a switch, which changes the layout of the upcoming obstacles to one of two versions when skated over. | ||
