The aim of the event is to score points by touching the opponent with the epée.
==Gameplay==
In this event, the player must play two rounds, a semi-final round, which decides which round they will qualify for next, and either a final round if they win the semi-final or a third place match if they lose. In each round, the player must either score three points or have the most points when the time runs out to win. The player is able to advance by tilting their system away from them or moving the circle pad to the top right, and retreat by tilting their system towards them or moving the circle pad to the bottom right. To score a point, the player must touch their opponent with the epée by pressing the A button to thrust. Thrusting when they are not close enough to the opponent will cause them to lose their balance and are briefly unable to perform any moves. If they thrust at the same time as the opponent, their epées will clash and neither character will score a point. Once a point has been scored, both characters will return to their starting positions in the centre. [[Omochao]] acts as a referee in this event.

In Medley Match mode, Fencing - Epée appears as the second event of the Contact Sports Medley, and the third event of the Cat-like Reflex Medley.

In the game's story mode, Fencing - Epée appears as the second challenge of Sonic Episode 1, [[Sonic Arrives]], in which [[Tails]] must beat an [[imposter]] of [[Luigi]]. It also appears as part of the fifth challenge of Heroes Episode 1, [[Mario and Sonic (episode)|Mario and Sonic]], in which [[Mario]] must beat an imposter of [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]] in it, alongside [[100m (Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for Nintendo 3DS)|100m]] and [[Judo]]. It also appears as the fourth challenge of Heroes Episode 7, [[The Promise to Toad]], in which Tails must once again beat an imposter of Luigi.
