Fishin' Lakitus carry them as bait for Mario, and when Mario acquires it, the Lakitu will chase after Mario, throwing Spinies after him. 1-Up Mushrooms also appear out of eggs when Mario is already riding a Yoshi and hits a ? 1-Up Mushrooms are the main feature of 1-Up Chambers. In these areas, there are five horizontal floorboards, each with three ? Blocks within them. For each row, if Mario and Luigi jump at the ? Blocks in a certain order, which is always randomized, they earn a 1-Up Mushroom. If the order is incorrect, all the ? Blocks turn brown, and Mario or Luigi do not earn a 1-Up Mushroom for that row.
