A Mask-Guy walks toward its prey.

Mask-Guys are weak enemies encountered in Virtual Boy Wario Land. Despite being minor foes, three Mask-Guys (who hold extensive treasure) are rather major characters in their only appearance's plot.

Mask-Guys are somewhat simple enemies. They can hurt Wario only with the spike on their mask's "nose", and can be defeated easily (much like the separate Wario enemies Pirate Goom and Spearhead). The Mask-Guy bears the appearance of a teal, round creature covering his face with a sinister-looking blue mask. Very little is known about Mask-Guys, who seem to be unique to the Awazon river. As stated above, however, a trio of Mask-Guys are important characters in Virtual Boy Wario Land. These three Mask-Guys of unknown names were the first living things Wario saw on his journey to the strange Awazon, and he promptly followed them into their cave storage room. In this room, he saw that they were hiding great treasures, which he swore to steal as they banished him to the labyrinth below the Awazon's basin.

Interestingly, Mask-Guys are very similar to the much more major Mario character Shy Guy in more than a few ways. Both Mask-Guys and Shy Guys are squat, masked enemies, and they share a name ending in "guy" (something not uncommon among Shy Guy sub-species, such as the Zeus Guy and the Fly Guy).
