Clubbas are large, burly vaguely Koopa-like creatures who are often shown to work for Bowser as soldiers, some Clubbas have shown to be neutral characters, though. A Clubba's trademarks is it's spiked mace and tendency to sleep a lot.

The first appearance of Clubbas was in Paper Mario, where they were commonly seen guards in Tubba Blubba, a Clubba himself, castle; only a few of Tubba Blubba's Clubba henchmen actively guarded Tubba Blubba's Castle, and if Mario so wished, he could simply sneak by sleeping Clubbas, who would only wake if the sensed a quick movement; a Clubba can also be summoned to guard a treasure chest in the Shy Guy's Toy Box by Kammy Koopa, if the player chooses a Clubba as one of the things Mario fears in a Princess Peach intermission. Later in Paper Mario, a single Clubba appears as a sleeping guard in Princess Peach's Castle; sleeping while it was supposed to be guarding a door in the castle, this Clubba could have it's appearance copied by Princess Peach and her Sneaky Parasol, making a Clubba, complete with it's mace, playable in a sense.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, only one Clubba, named Grubba makes on appearance as the manager of the Glitz Pit and as a boss. The most recent appearance of Clubbas has been Super Paper Mario, where the appear in the Gap of Crag, once more, they were often found napping and could be sneaked by with the player's character.

In Super Paper Mario, only one Clubba appears yet, if the player says to Mimi (disguised as Merlee) that he/she is afraid of a Clubba, one will appear in one of the three coming rooms.

Trivia

  • Clubbas are more than likely related to Spikes, as they resemble them greatly and Clubba's Japanese name, Gabon Hei, meaning Gabon Soldier, is extremely similar to Spike's Japanese name, Gabon.
