Metroid is a series of sci-fi action-adventure video games created by Nintendo. The Metroid and Mario series have referenced each other numerous times; various Metroid elements such as protagonist Samus Aran have appeared in Mario games and the WarioWare sub-franchise (headed by Metroid co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto). The two franchises have crossed over fully in the Super Smash Bros. series.
