Flagpole.
A Flagpole appears at the end of every level in Super Mario Bros. games and New Super Mario Bros.. Mario or Luigi have to jump and grab the flagpole to end the level. A skull is on the flag. In New Super Mario Bros. it's a black flag (or red for secret exits) with a white skull.
Mario could also jump on flagpoles in Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. This game answers the question, "Why jump on the flagpoles?" The answer is, "Why not?"
A flagpole can also be found in Little Fungitown of the Beanbean Kingdom and could be slid down as well.
