The second area

This level introduces Warp Boxes, another new gimmick in the remake. In the first area, the player must enter the red Warp Box, then activate and enter the blue Warp Box by pressing the blue Color Switch. They can then choose to pick up a 1-Up Mushroom above the Donut Blocks nearby, or activate the yellow Warp Box to reach the Key just below it. That done, the player must carry the key through the red Warp Box and reach the door.

In the second area, the player must time an entry into a red Warp Box to teleport onto a moving platform above him. Then, they must drop down to the blue Color Switch below some crumbling blocks, and proceed forward. After crossing rows of crumbling blocks and moving platforms, the player can reach the yellow Color Switch, activate the yellow Warp Box, and reach the Mini-Mario from there.

Present locations[edit]

  • Red: In the first area, just above the yellow Warp Box and some Donut Blocks.
  • Yellow: In the second area, guarded by a red Color Block gate and with a blue Warp Box behind. Mario must activate the blue Color Switch, make a round-trip around the first part of the area, and reach the present.
  • Blue: In the second area, near the Mini-Mario and placed above two rows of crumbling blocks.
