Universal Pictures, also known as simply Universal and formerly Universal Studios Inc., is an American film distributor and publisher owned by NBCUniversal.

In 1982, Universal Studios filed a lawsuit against Nintendo, claiming that both the titular character and scenario of Nintendo's game Donkey Kong infringed on Universal's rights to King Kong. However, the district court ruled in favor of Nintendo.

Universal is a producer and distributor of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a film released in 2023, as well as its 2026 follow-up. Both films were co-produced by Universal's subsidiary Illumination.
