The Super Mario 64 version of Snifits resemble the original, wearing masks with bullet-shooting mouth nozzles, but are noticeably different in that they lack legs and float in the air instead of walking. In the Super Mario 64 Player's Guide, they are known as Snufits and are additionally referred to as the cousins of regular Snifits,[1] while Super Mario 64 DS Prima Games coverage instead refers to them as Sniffits.[2] The former is likely a pun on "snuff it," a colloquialism for dying, while the latter may be an outright typo.
History
Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS
In Super Mario 64, Snufits appear in the Hazy Maze and Cavern of the Metal Cap areas. Here, they have a round Boo-like appearance and wear white masks. When Mario comes close to one, it will shoot a burst of small bullets out of its mouth, although this action is preceded by briefly swelling up like a balloon before firing. Snufits can be defeated by any basic attack.
Sniffits reappear in Super Mario 64 DS, retaining their behavior.
