The Legend of Zelda is a fantasy-themed action-adventure game series created by Nintendo. As one of Nintendo's most successful series, the Zelda franchise has had generous amounts of synergy with the Mario franchise. Both series have had frequent crossovers and cross-references to each other, most notably in the Super Smash Bros. series; additionally, series protagonist Link has also made various appearances in the greater Mario franchise itself, including a full playable appearance in Mario Kart 8.
