New Donk City is inspired by real world big cities, most notably New York City. It features many typical things found in cities, such as streets and taxis. Many of the streets and some of the billboards and advertisements in the city are named after characters from the Donkey Kong series, such as Diddy Kong "Dixie Street" "Tiny's PIROSHKIS" and "Cranky Avenue"; additionally, there are some red girders that appear in New Donk City as a reference to the original Donkey Kong arcade game.
