The bottom of the stage is where Mario starts. Mario starts off in an area in which he is trapped, so he must wait for the Faiachū to walk on the Ice Blocks so they melt them, allowing him to climb out of the area using the ladder. Mario must then go right onto some elevators, then ride them up to the top where a switch can be found. Mario must pull it to the left to deactivate the bridge, freeing the Faiachū, and change the direction of the elevators so they go down. The Faiachū will melt the Ice Blocks blocking the way to another switch and the key. Mario must then ride the elevators back down and wait for the Faiachū to melt the Ice Blocks which are blocking a way up; Mario must either Handstand Jump or Backflip up to jump up into the area. Mario must pick up the key and throw it down to the base of the long ladder, flip the switch to the right to activate the bridges and open the door, then climb down the ladder quickly to obtain the key again to unlock the door before it disappears and returns to its original location.
